The sign says:
Be an organ donor. Give your heart to Jesus.
This could only be considered an evangelistic message to unbelievers. Christians have already “given their heart to Jesus.”
The problems abound. There isn’t anywhere that the Bible says something like “give your heart to Jesus.” Jesus said, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me” (Matt. 16:24). Surely it’s not hard to see that taking up one’s cross is a whole different level of commitment than giving one’s heart.
The other problem is that since this is meant for unbelievers, is it adequately clear what this sign is talking about? Would an unbeliever driving by understand that they’re a sinner deserving of hell, and that Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead, and they’re commanded to repent and believe the gospel? I don’t see how.
It seems to me it’s making light of the whole idea of Christianity. The main goal behind this sign isn’t to convey biblical truth, but to make little girls giggle and old ladies feel warm and fuzzy.
Christianity is the truth. People are going to hell. Our culture is rotting. Can’t we take this more seriously?
