The deity of Christ is made clear throughout both the Old and New Testament. Of course, with a reputable Bible translation, it’s easy to show someone several verses that say Jesus is God (such as Isaiah 7:14 and 9:6, Zechariah 12:10, Matthew 1:23, Luke 8:38-39, John 1:1, 14, John 8:58, John 20:28, Acts 20:28, Titus 1:3, Hebrews 1:8, 2 Peter 1:1, and 1 John 5:20). But the Jehovah’s Witnesses have done a good job editing all of those out of the “Bible” they use—the New World Translation. Nevertheless, there are many ways to show them Jesus is God using even their Bible. I gave a few examples in a previous post, but here are a few more.
- Jehovah’s Witnesses like to point out John 17:3, where Jesus refers to His Father as the one true God. Two verses later, Jesus reveals that He shared glory with the Father before the world began. But in Isaiah 42:8, Jehovah says that He will not share His glory with another. So Jehovah’s Witnesses are left to decide whether John 17:5 or Isaiah 42:8 is true, because to them, both verses can’t be true.
- Jesus made everything (John 1:3). Jehovah made everything by Himself (Isaiah 44:24). If I were to build a house by hiring carpenters, electricians, roofers, and others, I could still say I built the house, but I would be a liar if I said I built it alone, with my own hands. Is Jehovah a liar when He says He created the universe by Himself, or is Jesus Jehovah?
- Isaiah 40:3 contains a prophecy about someone clearing the way for Jehovah. This prophecy is fulfilled by John the Baptist clearing the way for Jesus to begin His ministry. A good way to approach this is to have the Jehovah’s Witness read Matthew 3:3 in an accepted translation where it quotes that prophecy: “Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.” Ask him or her who this prophecy is referring to, and the individual will most likely say it’s referring to Jesus. Then, have him read it in his NWT Bible where ‘Lord’ is replaced with ‘Jehovah’.
- There are a lot of interesting ways to go with Isaiah 43:10-11. Verse 10 says that we are witnesses of Jehovah. But, in Acts 1:8, Jesus says that we are to be His witnesses. Jehovah’s Witnesses need to decide who they will be witnesses of, and who they will disobey.
- It’s also clear from Isaiah 43:10 that there is only one God. Jesus can’t be “a god” as the JW version of John 1:1 says.
- Isaiah 43:11 says Jehovah is the only savior. Of course there can be other saviors in other contexts, such as someone who pulls a drowning child from a pool, but Jehovah is the only one who can save us from our sins. Acts 4:12, which refers to Jesus, says there is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. Are we saved by Jehovah alone, or by Jesus alone? Again, to a Jehovah’s Witness, only one of these verses can be true.
Many times Jehovah’s Witnesses go door to door in pairs, and often one is an experienced Jehovah’s Witness while the other is newer to the religion. The JWs tell the new recruits that Christians don’t know what they’re talking about, and this is all too often true. If you’re a Christian who doesn’t know why you believe what you believe, and can’t show it to someone else in the Bible, you’re making the Watchtower look good, and proving the JWs right.
There are many good ways to show the Watchtower to be false. It’s easy to pick one of these and learn it. So the next time JWs want to talk with you, don’t slam the door in their face. God may use you to get someone out of that organization. Even if you blow it, it’s okay. It will inspire you to study the Bible, and you’ll do better next time.
Even with just these few passages, from the NWT (a completely trashed translation of the Bible), is there any doubt that Jesus is God?
PRAISED BE HIS NAME!!!
SORRY, THIS IS THE SAME COMMENT, NOT ANOTHER ONE, I WAS LOOKING FOR THIS FOR A LONG TIME, TRULY I AM GRATEFUL TO YOU.

Wow! This is incredible! Just what I was looking for. Thank you for sharing the truth that lies within us with accuracy and perfection to reveal the truth.
God bless.
[Michael left a comment with a list of verses that we’ve all heard about how Jesus isn’t God. As he never checked back to continue the conversation, I’m deleting his comment. If you’re a JW who wants to try to prove me wrong, that’s great. All I ask is that you continue the conversation. Don’t just leave a comment and never check back, as I will delete it, unless it’s something I haven’t seen a million times or something interesting. Please click on “Jehovah’s Witnesses: Please read this before commenting.” on the right side of the page.]
Michael,
Thanks for your comment.
I don’t know if you copy and pasted your comment, but you didn’t respond to any of the points in this post. In fact, some of them I answered in the post. I’m familiar with each of those verses, and I’ve seen Jehovah’s Witnesses try to use almost all of them on me. Some of them have amazing answers if you study them closely.
I think a basic understanding of the trinity would help many people tremendously, so I’ll explain it briefly. There is one God. The Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are all God, but each is their own person. They can talk to each other, sit next to each other, etc. Also, the Father is the first person in the trinity, and the Son, the second person. If a wife submits to her husband, does that make her inferior? She’s absolutely equal. If the Son submits to the Father, doest that make him inferior?
Another thing that might help is that Jesus has a divine nature, and a human nature. Sometimes we see his divine nature, and sometimes we see His human nature.
Are you born of God or born again?
I look forward to your response. Maybe you can answer some of the topics in the post.
Thanks,
Bill
[Mr. Logical wrote a comment, and never checked back, so I’m deleting his comment. I’ve had many JWs leave comments here, and only 2 continued on to have some sort of conversation. I don’t know if they’re scared of something, but if they have the truth, the truth will stand up to scrutiny, right?
JW: I’m not a pastor or a theologian. I’m a regular guy with zero formal Bible training. Don’t be scared to talk to me.]
Mr. Logical,
You lost me. Are you a Jehovah’s Witness? If not, what are you? How many gods do you believe in?
The Father is the one true God (John 17:3). Jesus is the one true God (1 John 5:20). Which one of those verses do you say is true? As a trinitarian, I say they’re both true.
Jesus created the universe. Jehovah created the universe. Jesus is Jehovah. I’m sorry if I didn’t explain that properly in the post.
Jesus is the one true eternal God. The Father is the one true eternal God. The Holy Spirit is the one true eternal God.
Jesus was fully God and fully man. He took on the limitations of a human. He had to obey the law of Moses (Galatians 4:4), including prayer.
If Satan could have convinced Jesus to sin, none of us could be saved. We wouldn’t have a sinless sacrifice. Do you think Jesus could have sinned, or was it impossible?
Thanks,
Bill
This is very useful =)
Thank you
Thank you for your comment, Claudia.
I wish I could say that after reading your posts that I have come to a conclusion as to the identity of Christ but I’m afraid this simply isn’t the case.
I am starting a new men’s sunday school class this week. The class promisses to be a sucess because we aren’t going to use any of the common study guides. Instead, we are ging to base our classes on questions collected from class participants.
The first question we are going o present to the class is “Is Jesus God” I would like to know if you have a definate verse that defies interpretation and points out beyond a shadow of doubt that Jesus is God.
Thank you<
Barry Sowell
Hi Barry,
I’m a little bit surprised by your question. What is your answer to the question? There aren’t many denominations around that would allow someone to teach a Sunday school class if they weren’t sure whether Jesus is God. That’s kind of a basic prerequisite to being a Christian.
The truth is that there are so many verses teaching that Jesus is God that you’d really be hard pressed to miss them. He does miracles. He demonstrates infinite knowledge, receives worship, etc.
I guess if I had to pick one verse, I’d go with Acts 20:28.
Are you born again?
Thanks,
Bill

The Bridegroom comes, Come out to meet him. Matt. 25:6.
From where shall we go out? We shall go out of the great
Babylon, the great whore. Rev. Chapter 17 and 18. This
command of the Lord in Rev. 18:4 is now highly topical.
Never before we have been so nearly Jesus’ coming as we
are now, but how are God’s people prepared? How is the
unity in the faith? Sorry, very bad! God’s people are more
divided now than ever before. Instead of following what
the Bible teaches about the Assembly of God, they have
followed Satan’s false assembly doctrine. They believe
that the Assembly of God is constituted of church systems
and many religious organizations.
Most Christians have not yet begun to prepare for Jesus’
coming. They can speak and write that Jesus shall come,
and about the signs of the time, yet they do not make any
preparation to meet Jesus. How can we make a preparation?
To make preparation and be ready for Jesus’ coming, God’s
people must get the knowledge of the Assembly of God.
All God’s people must in the first hand begin to study what
the Bible teaches about the Assembly of God. What we
need now before the restoration of the Assembly of God,
it is humility before God’s word and a forgivable disposition
to each other.
The Assembly of God is no Pentecostal church. Please,
consider what this expression “the Assembly of God” in the
reality implies. The Assembly of God must be the same as
the Greek word “ekklesia”, and the Body of Christ. 1 Cor.
12:12-31. Then it is easy to understand that this has nothing
to do with the Pentecostal Movement. Pentecostal churches
have existed about 100 years, but the Assembly of God has
ever existed since Jesus baptized his first disciples by the
Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gave them the new life in Christ
so that they became born anew. Then the Assembly of God
was born.
